Atlantic City reign ends

Chris Martin scored 38 points on Friday, March 2 to lead the Winslow Township High School varsity boys basketball team past two-time defending NJSIAA Group IV South champion Atlantic City in a sectional semifinal playoff game.

Martin scored 21 points from beyond the arc and his Winslow teammates broke open a close game by dominating the fourth quarter to earn the win.

Winslow led 9-8 after the first quarter and 28-27 at halftime. After three quarters, Atlantic City still trailed, 53-50.

Winslow dominated the game’s final eight minutes, 24-14.

John White led the Vikings with 21 points and was followed by Jamal Edwards with 17 and Darnell Davis with 14.

Atlantic City ends its season at 23-7 overall and 10-7 on the road.

Winslow Township, the No. 1 seed, improved to 25-4 and advances to group final to play No. 3 seed Cherokee on Monday, Feb. 5 at Atlantic City High School.
